Flash Talk Guide

For Graduating Students – Cohort 7

What is a Flash Talk?

A Flash Talk is a short and engaging 3-minute presentation in which you communicate the core of your thesis in a way that’s clear, concise, and compelling.
At IDOH Day 2025, this format is your chance to:
  • Share your work with the IDOH community
  • Show how your research fits into the One Health approach
  • Practice public speaking in a fun, supportive environment
  • Learn to explain complex topics simply — a key skill for interviews, funding pitches, and networking
No need for complex visuals or long technical explanations. Just you, your story, and (optionally) one PowerPoint slide.

What Makes a Great Flash Talk?

Think of it as your science elevator pitch, a blend of storytelling and strategy. You want to spark curiosity, show your enthusiasm, and leave the audience wanting more.

Keep It Simple and Clear, but Compelling

You only have 3 minutes. You’re speaking to an interdisciplinary audience!

Tell a Story

People remember narratives. Structure your talk.

Be Authentic and Dynamic

Your passion is your superpower. If you’re excited, your audience will be too.

Use visuals wisely

You may use one simple slide (optional) or a 2–3 minute video if presenting virtually. You’re the star of the talk, not your PowerPoint.

Practise and Time Yourself

There’s no shortcut.  3 minutes is short!

Why Participate?

Because IDOH Day is made for us, by us — a celebration of the IDOH journey, research, and community spirit.
Your work is part of the bigger One Health picture. This is your chance to connect, inspire, and be heard. This event is a celebration of the IDOH community and the incredible work each of us is doing. Your voice, your project, and your perspective all matter.
We would be delighted to feature your voice and your science in this year’s program
